There were 13 immortals originally, but their contract with the Guardians allows them each to gain mortality when they find their soulmates. Alexander used his one opportunity for mortality with a woman who didn't love him in return, and he is now doomed to spend eternity as an Immortal. He has vowed never to trust a woman again.
Alexander's current task is to hunt down a rogue Immortal, named Cain, who has been using black magic. Alexander discovers that Cain is hunting Kaelyn, but he doesn't know why. He decides to use her as bait to capture Cain, and he'll keep her under his protection as long as she is helping him.
As events unfold, Kaelyn and Alexander choose to travel back to 12th century Scotland to search for the reason why Cain is stalking Kaelyn. They learn more about each other during their travels, as well as learning more about Kaelyn's destiny. But until the final hours, they have no idea where this journey will take them.
Review: Ho-hum. I was underwhelmed by the relationship. It was just another romance where the two main characters pushed each other away through the whole book - even though they were clearly in love. The setting and names might change, but I've read this story a hundred times before. Throwing in a manipulative ex-girlfriend made it about as cliché as it could possibly be.
I did really appreciated that the author switched from first person POV (Immortal of my Dreams) to third person in this novel. I thought this was a huge improvement in how the story was told.
Other than the love story, the other elements of the book were interesting and creative. I thought it was a great idea to give Kaelyn a job as a mountain guide in the 21st century. This profession worked really well in both the modern and medieval parts of the story. Cain's character made a fantastic villain. He's one of the good guys in the first book, so his gradual fall into darkness was really interesting (but you would have to read the first book to know that he wasn't always evil.) From the creation of the Guardians and the Immortals, to the mystery behind Kaelyn's semi-annual illnesses, to the involvement of the Fae, the pieces of this book fit together really well. In fact, if it weren't for the disappointing love story, I would have given this book a higher rating.

I read your second book and just loved it. I was waiting for this to come out, and it was worth the wait. I loved the characters, the setting, and the action. I'm just disappointed that I now have to wait for # 3.

Liked the realistic characterization and that things were not over explained. The author gave credit to the reader and developed believable characters.
I waited eagerly for this second book in Alexis McNeil's Immortal's series after being completely swept away by the first book, Immortal of My Dreams. This book does not disappoint! Immortal of My Heart follows 21st century Kaelyn, as she is being hunted by "Rogue" immortal, Cain. Cain is in turn being hunted by Immortal Alexander who we encountered in book 1, along with the story of his believed to be soul mate. I always wondered how Alexander's story would unfold given that he had been screwed of his one and only chance of being free of his bond to the Guardians by finding his soul mate. In fact, I wondered if Alexander would even get his own story because of the fact that he was screwed out of a soul mate. I am very happy to say, he does get a story and one that does him and this series justice. Alexander is a complex character because of what he had experienced in the past and Ms.McNeil really shines in her ability to show his complexities and inner struggles as he fights to protect Kaelyn from Cain. I both wanted to hit Alexander out of pure frustration at his cold-hearted attitude and comfort him because I fully understood where his attitude came from. Throughout the story you begin to slowly see his walls come down one by one, as Kaelyn begins to break them away. And speaking of Kaelyn, she is a layered character herself. There are things about herself she doesn't even know and we follow her and learn with her as she does. We watch her enmity of Alexander melt away as the story progresses and we all know how justified she is in her feelings.
The tension in the story, both between Alexander and Kaelyn as well as the two of them and the villains, creates something that draws the reader in and keeps them wanting more. There are parts of the book that shock you and parts that just tug at your heart strings and ultimately you are always left wondering what is going to happen between these characters next. And of course, we see cameos from Merrick and Jillian from Immortal of My Dreams, and encounter remaining Immortals Cain and Gideon. We also see the familiar villain faces of the Guardian Rowena.
I can't say enough, if you love a little Scottish Romance with some Supernatural/ Time Travel mixed in, you have to give this series a shot! Karen Marie Moning got me started on my love of Time Travel Romance and Alexis McNeil's Immortal's series keeps my desire to read about some more magical Highlanders completely satisfied. Ms.McNeil I have only one request Write Faster!
I fell in right away!!! I have read the whole series in one day because I couldn't put it down! I am waiting with baited breath, for the last book,(4 kindle fire)!!!
The books captured my mind and held it. I barely put them down long enough to eat. I felt like I was transferred in time and space. If you can get them all as a set I'd go for it! Because you will Love them all and you won't have to wait for the rest!!!
I had read Angel's Consort by Nalini Singh prior to this one so I am completely comparing the writing styles and this one lost a lot of sizzle. The dialogue between the characters, the Scottish immortal Alexander and the America human, Kaelyn were "not so great" much of the time. The love scenes, hmmm, so-so. I think I like Hunter who is Kaelyn's friend who wishes for more, the best and he didn't have a whole heck of a lot of book time.
The build up to Kaelyn and Alexander falling in love was too all of a sudden. He was pretty superficial. I like the strong, protective kinda characters and he tried but didn't quite pull it off all the time. The bad guys could've been badder. They could have caused more trouble than they did. I like trouble. Decent story. Not one I would re-read and there are many that I would and have.
